  • My husband and I became ill with covid in November 2020

    Sharon
My husband and I became ill with covid in November 2020. I had been horrified by how hard it was to obtain advice from NHS or online. I found several good covid support groups on Facebook. Long Covid-19 Foundation stood out for me as it was new and I noticed the founder was putting in a lot of work, researching and providing information and insights for post covid recovery. In a matter of months the foundation has developed a wealth of informative videos and post, in addition to being a welcoming support group where ideas such as the gardening sub group are welcomed. I'm very happy I found it. Sharon, June 2021

The paper uses a citizen science approach using social media to determine plausible degrees of psychologization or somatization of long covid. It reviews the literature on somatization or disease-disbelief in particular for issues of gender. It then establishes levels of somatization or psychologization and key correlates such as gender, ethnicity, level of education, age, and place of residence. Statistical tests are included. It also looks at whether the degree of psychologization was associated with less treatment effort. Finally the paper looks at whether there was a time trend in the degree of psychologization.

It was a hard year for many people. Among people with Long COVID many are not able to return to normal live and work (very often people who suffer had to reduce their work hours or modify duties due to persistent health issues). We are committed to breach gaps in knowledge and provide with latest guidance and up-to-date information for medical professionals. We observe the challenges among medical professionals with regards to understanding Long COVID nature due to lack of training or limited capacity for self learning. As a result, after 3 years since the pandemic started, Long COVID is still not being addressed sufficiently by medical professionals and health bodies.

Timely diagnostic is vital and is a prerequisite to identify personalised treatment modalities. We are looking for opportunities to integrate our knowledge with experts in digital services and AI to allow medical care accessible for everyone as and when needed!

Long Covid-19 Foundation relies on public support, donations and appreciates everyone’s contribution!

Long COVID Public Requested Research Initiative

Dr. Baig’s Twitter followers who suffer from Long-COVID want to fund the discovery of solutions for their illnesses via this funding. They have inspired Dr. Baig to use the fund to find diagnostic and treatment modalities for Long-COVID and MECFS. His help to the Long-COVID community will begin after 1st June 2023, the day of his retirement.
This funding will help Dr. Baig to:
1. Find solutions to prevent and dissolve the thrombotic mechanisms in Long-COVID
2. Find antivirals that can eradicate SARS-CoV-2 in Long-COVID suffers
3. Design methods to remove prothrombotic molecules from the blood of patients with Long-COVID
This is crucial research that could improve recovery outcomes and help millions of people see an end to this awful illness.

Your donation – no matter how small – could help a friend, a family member, or a neighbour recover from Long-COVID and even pre-Covid ME. Please donate today and share with others to help the team kickstart this project.

People with Long Covid in the UK
0 +
According to the Office for National Statistics:
    • An estimated 2.1 million people living in private households in the UK (3.3% of the population) were experiencing self-reported long COVID (symptoms continuing for more than four weeks after the first confirmed or suspected coronavirus (COVID-19) infection not explained by something else) as of 1 October 2022; these estimates are only fully comparable with those in the October 2022 bulletin, when prevalence was 2.3 million, and not with any other previous bulletins because of changes in data collection methods.

    • Fatigue continued to be the most common symptom reported as part of individuals’ experience of long COVID (70% of those with self-reported long COVID), followed by difficulty concentrating (45%), shortness of breath (42%) and muscle ache (42%).

105 000+ children with Long Covid in the UK

105,000 children and young people are currently living with Long Covid in the UK, 22,000 have had symptoms over a year, and 18,000 report activity is “limited a lot”.

100+ Symptoms of Long Covid identified

In part, those symptoms included dizziness, anxiety, headache, rashes, joint pain, shortness of breath, heartburn, diarrhea and fevers, difficulty with memory, thinking, sleep and vision.
